episode synopsis

 

Serlida of Abadon (Monique Ganderton)- a witch who belonged to a dark coven known for using dark magic, is hunted down by Katrina's (Katia Winter) coven "The Sisterhood of the Radiant Heart" and caught in the woods near Sleepy Hollow.  Burned at the stake, she vows to return for vengence.

 

Katrina contacts Ichabod via a dream and tells him of Serilda's immenent return.  "She is one of us", Katrina adds as a clue.  Ichabod (Tom Mison) deduces she is a witch. Things begin to connect after Ichabod and Abbie (Nichole Beharie) realize she can only rise using the ashes of the Firth family, who was responsible for her death, during the Blood Moon which will be that night!  Meanwhile, Andy Brooks (John Cho) who's soul belongs to Moloch now, has been helping Serilda track down the Firth family line. She's been killing them one by one, collecting what she needs to rise. Ichabod and Abbie finally catch up with her in the tunnels where she makes her final transformation to this world!  After a scary moment, thanks to some old gun powder left from the Revolutionary days, they send her back from whence she came via fire!

 

                                           At the end of the episode Abbie gets a "visit" from her                                                      mentor, the late Sheriff Corbin (Clancy Brown), who tells                                                her he knew she was a witness.  Though Abbie questions                                                  why he never told her of her destiny, Corbin says she                                                        wouldn't have believed him.  She wasn't ready at the time.

 

Funny moments: Ichabod experiences 21st century living in his motel room- his first shower, hairdrying his clothes, coffeemaker, television and donutholes; complains about the 10% tax on baked goods, adding the Revolutionary War began over only 2%!

 

A Few historical Facts

 

*Blood Moon Prophacy: In the "Book of Joel", it is written the "the sun will turn into darkness, and the moon into blood", which signals the End of Days.  Blood Moons are considered bad omens.  According to scientists, there will be four Blood Moons and two have already happened this year- Aprl 15, 2014 and October 8, 2014.  The next two are set to occur April 4, 2015 and September 28, 2015.  Some believe once all four Blood Moons occur, the End of Days begins and seven years of tribulation on earth will follow, ending with final Judgement Day.

 

Abadon: is an old Gypsy language

 

Witch Trials: No witches were actually burned at the stake.  They were hung. 

 

Twistory: While returning to his regiment's camp after battle, Ichabod and others came across several camps where men were dead, though from what is unknown. As he peers across the camp, his eyes locked upon a creature who sent chills down his spine.  (Later learns was Serilda of Abadon)
